Training to become a Dunstan Baby Language Professional
The Dunstan Baby Language training is for baby professionals who want to use Dunstan Baby Language in their work, such as maternity nurses, lactation consultants, midwives, nurses, pre-verbal speech therapists, pediatric physical therapists, childcare workers, or child health clinic doctors. The training enhances professionals’ skills in recognising the Baby Language sounds and teaches them how to apply what they learn about Dunstan Baby Language in their daily work.
The Training
The Foundation Course consists of two online sessions. Each lesson lasts 2.5 hours. There is a break of approximately two months between the two lessons.
During the first course session, and through the online course materials, participants learn the five Dunstan Baby Language sounds and receive information about Priscilla Dunstan’s discovery of Dunstan Baby Language and the extensive research.
In the two months after starting the training, participants are asked to study the online course book, complete the questions for each chapter and write a report on applying Dunstan Baby Language in at least two practical situations relevant to their work.
Please note: It is therefore essential that you can arrange several (at least 2) observation sessions with babies.
Participants also receive access to the online Listening Exam, which assesses their listening skills. Retakes are available.
During the second session, participants discuss their experiences from the training and practise applying Dunstan Baby Language in real-life situations.
Target audience and admission
No specific prior qualifications are required for the training course. If you are not yet working as a baby professional, we’ll get in touch to introduce ourselves and find out how this course fits in with your plans.
Please note: for the training, you must find at least one family to practise explaining the 5 reflex sounds to.
You should also observe as many other babies as possible, so that you have observed all the reflex sounds and can describe them in your reflective report.
Please note: the above applies to babies aged 0 to 4 months.

Our training courses are delivered online (via Zoom), so you can choose where you’d like to join from.
Study commitment
The Dunstan Baby Language training for professionals is not a standalone workshop, but a comprehensive training program. It consists of two in-depth live lessons of 2.5 hours each, approximately 15 hours of required independent study, and individual support.
Participants are assessed throughout the course and complete the program with a certificate.
Requirements
The training is delivered online (via Zoom). Ideally, you should take the training on a laptop or PC, but you can also join from a tablet or phone.
Make sure you have a quiet environment and a good internet connection.
We’ll send you a course folder by post. Please bring your own pen and paper if you’d like to take notes.
The reflection assignments must be completed in Word and uploaded as a Word file to your online learning environment.
Please note: for the training, you must find at least one family to practise explaining the 5 reflex sounds to.
You should also observe as many other babies as possible, so that you have observed all the reflex sounds and can describe them in your reflective report.
Certification
If the participant has attended all lessons, completed the open-book test and listening test, and submitted at least two practice case reports that have been graded as satisfactory, they will receive a Dunstan Baby Language Certificate. They can then use the method in their day-to-day work as a maternity care professional.
Please note: after completing this training, you are not yet qualified to run courses for parents/carers. You must complete the additional module to do so.
Training professionals is reserved for Dunstan Babytaal Nederland. You are therefore not permitted to train colleagues or other professionals.
The certificate is valid for 3 years.
To keep your certificate valid, it’s important to take the refresher course on time. If you don’t, your certificate will expire and you’ll need to start the training again if you wish to continue using the Dunstan Baby Language method.

Accreditation
KCKZ
The professional associations for maternity nurses have accredited the Dunstan Baby Language Training with 8 credits in categories C and D.
KNOV
The Royal Dutch Organization of Midwives (KNOV), Quality Register for Midwives, has accredited the Basic Baby Language Course for 5 points in category A: continuing professional development for the Quality Register for Midwives.
Other accreditations are available on request.

Dunstan Babytaal Nederland is registered with the Central Register for Short Vocational Education. This means the course and its learning materials can be offered VAT-free.
Payment by instalments can be discussed.
